Bone China oder auch Knochenporzellan bezeichnet ein in England entwickeltes Rezept, bei dem durch Zugabe von bis zu 50 % Rinderknochen - Asche eine besonders hohe Transparenz erreicht wird.
"Die vier Elemente" - Stadtschule Bad Oldesloe. Zusammen mit der Klasse 3a, haben wir im März 2008, 8 große Mosaikplatten zu dem Thema "Die vier Elemente"; Feuer, Wasser, Erde und Luft gemacht.
Die fertigen Platten wurden an zwei vorher triste, viereckige, graue Säulen in der Eingangshalle der Schule befestigt. Sechs Wochen lang, mindestens zwei Mal pro Woche je vier Stunden haben wir daran gearbeitet.
"Unsere Stadt Bad Oldesloe" heißt dieses 150 cm x 110 cm Wandmosaik, das ich zusammen mit den 20 Kindern der Klasse 4a der Klaus-Groth-Schule in Bad Oldesloe gemacht habe.
Wir haben uns über vier Monate einmal pro Woche getroffen und waren im Juni 2007 mit dem Mosaik fertig.
Although I work with conventional mosaic materials such as ceramic tile, coloured glass and smalten, I like a lot of the time to use porcelain, both vintage and modern which i have spent many years hunting and collecting. Whilst the china often has it´s own story to tell I use the broken fragments to make up, once the work is complete, a new story whereby the shards take on a second life. Whilst working on a piece I work spontaneously and intuitively breaking up the tiles, cups, plates and so on as I go along. In my head I visualise the knit of a old woolly brown coat when I see the embossed pattern on a brown "bad-taste" fondue plate or see the shimmering wings of a beetle in a garish iridescent lilac vase.
I take on commissional works and have mosaics in both public and private areas. I instruct mosaic art projects in schools and art groups and give adult mosaic workshops.
